2009 Partnering for Cures Highlights
The inaugural Partnering for Cures meeting provided the life sciences community with a platform to facilitate collaboration. Participants said it was "game-changing." Here are some outcomes:
A large pharmaceutical company provided a matching grant to support research championed by a small medical research foundation.
A biotechnology company and a nonprofit foundation are collaborating on a preclinical stage cancer program.
Two premier philanthropists teamed up to develop innovative cancer research.
A sustainable alliance was built between a medical research foundation and pharmaceutical company that's now yielding probable research partnerships.
A nonprofit organization developed a grant program in response to needs for better biomarkers articulated by other nonprofit attendees.
Philanthropic funders of medical research said that the meeting cut their due diligence process in half, allowing for more accelerated grant funding and program development.
"Attending the Partnering for Cures conference [2009] was a catalyst for our organization receiving a $250,000 matching grant from the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Office of Science and Technology. These new funds will allow us to fund one additional "Rising Star" scientist to continue our critical research."
